Offensive and disrespectful behavior by employees can undermine an organization’s workplace environment. Employers must train their employees how to recognize and report unacceptable behavior.
Why Train on Respect in the Workplace?
Being respectful is about demonstrating positive intent and acting in a way that promotes good working relationships. Respect is critical to an organization's productivity and overall values. Employees should understand what it means to create a culture of respect in their organization, how to recognize unacceptable behavior among colleagues, and how to report offensive and disrespectful behavior.
What Does this Course Cover?
This course teaches employees to identify, prevent, and report bullying and other persistent manipulative, offensive and intimidating behavior in the workplace.
Employees will learn practical skills to aid them in identifying violations and promoting a culture of respect in the workplace. In particular, the course teaches employees:
- To recognize that unproductive, disrespectful, harassing behavior that prevents employees from accomplishing their tasks is unwelcome in the workplace.
- That proper behavior in the workplace includes clear and constructive communication, honoring employees' differences, learning to ask questions and interact with one another in a respectful manner, and workplace behavior focused on and committed to workplace duties and vision.
- That persistent intimidating, harassing and offensive behavior in the workplace is destructive and contrary to organization policy, even if it does not fall under applicable anti-harassment or discrimination law.
- That such harassing, offensive behavior may be found to be a breach, not only of anti-discrimination or anti-harassment law but of other civil torts laws, and that the organization could be implicated in litigation.
- To report questionable behavior and to value open communication within teams and between supervisors and subordinates as a way to reduce the impact of disrespectful behavior in the workplace.
- That the organization will not stand for bullying, offensive behavior.
How is the Course Information Delivered?
Through a series of scenarios and interactive exercises, employees learn how to identify and respond to disrespectful behavior. Employees are asked to answer multiple choice questions where they consider the possible outcomes and implications of hypothetical situations. They are also required to correctly answer three questions in a ‘Quiz Show’ exercise in order to complete the course. The course concludes with customized information about how to get assistance and report concerns within your organization.
